Policies and Practices

Scope of My Practice

Solo Practitioner

I provide treatment as appropriate within the scope of my competence, training, experience, and resources as a solo practitioner.

Age Range

I treat adults ages 18 and older.  I do not treat children or adolescents.  I have some experience treating older populations, but I am not trained or certified as a Geriatric Psychiatrist.

Outside the Scope

Serious Mental Illness

I am not able to provide treatment for Schizophrenia or other Serious Mental Illness (SMI) requiring a treatment team approach.

Substance Use Disorders

I am not able to provide treatment for Alcohol or Substance Use Disorders requiring expertise outside of my practice.

Disability Opinions

I do not provide medical opinions regarding mental health disability.

Forensic Evaluations

I do not conduct "fitness for duty" or other forensic evaluations for court, employment, or other purposes.

ADHD Treatment

Conservative Approach

I take a conservative approach to the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.

ADHD Testing

I ask all patients seeking treatment of ADHD to obtain formal psychological testing to confirm the diagnosis, regardless of whether another provider has been treating it clinically.  Testing must include objective measures in addition to self-reported symptoms and history.  I do not conduct psychological testing.  I can provide a list of psychologists who do.

Controlled Medications

Conservative Approach

I take a conservative approach to prescribing controlled medications such as benzodiazepines and stimulants.

Professional Judgment

Medical opinions and prescribing practices of physicians may differ.  I will exercise my professional judgment about whether to prescribe controlled medications that have been prescribed by previous providers.

Prescription Monitoring Program

I utilize the Virginia Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) to monitor prescriptions of controlled medications to patients and prospective patients.

Fees

Out-of-Network Provider

I am an out-of-network provider.  I do not accept payment from health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's Compensation, or other third-party payers.

Out-of-Network Reimbursement

Some insurance plans may provide some out-of-network reimbursement to you.  I can provide billing documentation to you to file for any out-of-network reimbursement you may have under your plan.

Appointment Fees

  • Initial Consultation  (one hour and 30 minutes)  $375
  • Basic Follow-Up  (20 minutes)  $150
  • Complex Follow-Up  (30 minutes)  $175
  • Psychotherapy Session  (one hour)  $225
